Myron P. Gutmann, professor of history and director of the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) at the University of Michigan and the principal investigator of the Data-PASS partnership with the Library's National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program (www.digitalpreservation.gov), gives a briefing on how the project is acquiring and preserving at-risk digital opinion polls, voting records, large-scale surveys and other social science research data.
Speaker Biography: Prior to joining the University of Michigan faculty in August 2001, Myron Gutmann was professor of history and geography and director of the Population Research Center at the University of Texas at Austin. He received his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1976 and has broad interests in interdisciplinary historical research, especially health, population, economy and the environment. As director of the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research, he is a leader in the archiving and dissemination of electronic research materials related to society, population and health.
