Mr. Jon T. Rymer was nominated by President Bush and confirmed by the Senate as the Inspector General of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation on June 22, 2006. He was sworn into office on July 5, 2006. Mr. Rymer is a member of the President’s Council on Integrity and Efficiency, and has served as Chair of the Council’s Audit Committee since July 2008.

From 1981 through 1992, Mr. Rymer was Executive Vice President of First American National Bank of Tennessee. He was also Executive Vice President of Boatmen's Bank of Arkansas, Little Rock, Arkansas, from 1992 through 1997. As a banking executive, he held leadership roles in projects and activities ranging from running major business units to mergers and divestitures, systems conversions, and business and strategic planning.

During his years with the accounting firm of KPMG LLP, he provided services to scores of banking clients on matters of process improvement, assurance processes, and internal auditing. His clients ranged from international banks to community banks, thrifts, and credit unions. This experience fostered an understanding of banking operations and an appreciation for the concerns of bankers and customers alike.

Mr. Rymer has served for 28 years in the active and reserve components of the U.S. Army. His awards include the meritorious service medal with oak leaf cluster and the humanitarian service medal.

He attended the University of Tennessee where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in June 1981. He also was awarded a Master of Business Administration at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in August 1996. Mr. Rymer is also a Certified Internal Auditor and a graduate of the U.S. Army’s Inspector General School.
