House Staff to Spend Less on Lunch

A new, permanent House Value Meal station in Longworth will soon feature economical, $5.00 meals.

“We are happy to offer more inexpensive, quality food choices to our hardworking staff,” Chief Administrative Officer Dan Beard said.

Among the inaugural choices, which include sides and a fountain drink, are chicken wings, burritos and buffalo popcorn chicken salad.

The entrees offered at the express station will change weekly.

The cafeteria in Longworth will also offer specials on Fridays, including a quarter pound burger for $1.50. The House’s food service vendor, Restaurant Associates, will also post a special on Twitter every Friday.

Longworth’s patrons won’t be the only ones to enjoy the lower prices. Various specials will be available at all of the House eateries.

The House also recently added another way to save. Customers who buy an eco-friendly, reusable mug from the House Gift Shop can save 10 cents off coffee or soda in the House eateries.

“I appreciate that the CAO listened to its customers and provided a more cost-effective option for employees who are sticking to a budget during these difficult times,” said Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
