LCDR Dean R. Trombley is currently serving in the Office of Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps (OCVMRC), located in the Office of the United States Surgeon General. In July 2007, he became a Program Officer with the National Program Office. LCDR Trombley is assigned to work on activities related to day-to-day operations.

LCDR Trombley earned his associate degree in health and science from George Washington University and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in communication science and disorders at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. Continuing his studies at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, he graduated in 2002 as a Speech-Language Pathologist and started work that same year with the Gallup McKinley County Schools in Gallup, New Mexico. LCDR Trombley also has a background in the medical, emergency medical, and search and rescue services.

In 2005, LCDR Trombley received his commission as a United States Public Health Service Officer. Since 1981, he has served in the United States Navy, United States Army Reserve, and United State Navy Reserve, and was activated during Operations Desert Shield and Storm. LCDR Trombley currently serves as a volunteer member of the United States Air Force Auxiliary, Civil Air Patrol as a squadron Assistant Deputy Commander of Cadets, Safety Officer, and a Ground Team Leader, Mission Scanner, Mission Observer, ARCHER Operator, and Skills Evaluator.

Prior to serving with the OCVMRC, he served with the Indian Health Service at the Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility, located in Chinle, Arizona, on the Navajo Reservation. He worked there for 2 years as a Medical Speech-Language Pathologist.

“I have been lucky to serve this country, in uniform, for more than 18 years. I have the best job anyone could ask for and serve in a program (OCVMRC) with people that are dedicated to serve their communities, states, and nation.”

On a personal note, LCDR Trombley was born in Plattsburgh, NY, and was raised in the nearby farming community of Ellenburg. He has four children (two girls and two boys) that are the pride and love of his life. In February 1998, he was involved in a near-fatal role-over accident while driving a tractor trailer in Montreal, PQ, Canada. He overcame significant physical injuries, including a traumatic brain injury. The incident has had immense impact on his appreciation for daily life and love of family and friends. He enjoys meeting new people and is quick to introduce himself to others. He loves spending time with those he loves, creating art work, learning to play the mandolin, and traveling. His favorite place on earth is The Grand Canyon.

“Life can be a bit overwhelming at times so one place where I find relaxation and a sense of peace is at the Grand Canyon. It is easy for me to put my life’s challenges and achievements into prospective while observing the natural beauty and grandeur of that magnificent place.”
