The following products were developed to promote safety awareness among children and adults who may find remnants of military munitions (ammo) while outdoors. To protect yourself, your family, and friends, DoD recommends you learn, teach your children, and remember the "3Rs" of explosives safety.
- RECOGNIZE — when you may have encountered a munition
- RETREAT — do not touch, move or disturb it, but leave the area
- REPORT — call 911 and advise the police what you saw and where you saw it
The U.S. Army has enhanced its Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Safety Education Campaign Program with the introduction of bomb safety expert Sergeant Woof, a friendly German shepherd. Ilio is Sergeant Woof's Hawaiian buddy. Both Sergeant Woof and Ilio teach children to "Recognize, Retreat, and Report" any dangerous munitions they might encounter.
