Jul 7-17, 2009
Registration is now open until April 13, 2009!

With the construction of the world’s most powerful neutron source, the Spallation Neutron Source, the future for neutron scattering is bright in the U.S. Added to this is the importance of phase transformation in science and technology. Considering that one of the key strengths of neutron scattering is to probe materials under stress, pressure, magnetic fields, or elevated temperatures, an education in neutron scattering to study phase transformations has never been more timely.

The focus of the 6th annual LANSCE Neutron Scattering School is on phase transformations in bulk materials as investigated by neutron elastic and inelastic scattering. This years school will take place July 7-17, 2009. The application deadline is Monday, April 13, 2009. Applications must be submitted via the school website.

This year’s neutron scattering school is designed to be of interest to graduate level Ph.D. students and postdocs. Early career industrial researchers and advanced undergraduate students are also invited to apply. Applicants need not be U.S. citizens; however, preference will be given to students attending North American universities. The school will promote expansive knowledge of neutron scattering, illustrate applications of neutron scattering to solve problems related to phase transformations, and finally to provide hands-on opportunities to collect and analyze neutron scattering data.
