Senator Amy Klobuchar

Working for the People of Minnesota

K-12 Education Forums

Thank you for visiting the K-12 Education Forum section of my web site! I look forward to hearing from all of you on the important issue of education reform.

Congress will soon be taking up the reauthorization of the No Child Left Behind Act. I want to hear your thoughts, ideas and comments on education in Minnesota and how we can make No child Left Behind stronger and better.

This legislation was intended to improve the performance of our schools by increasing accountability for states, school districts and schools. Instead, it has turned into an underfunded federal mandate that often seems designed to penalize schools - and students- rather than to support them.

I believe in setting high expectations for our students and our schools. But to get the job done, we need to make sure that No Child Left Behind is measuring the right things - and we need to provide the resources to do it.

I get some of my best ideas from traveling around the state and hearing from people like you! The information we gather at these forums and on the web will be collected by my staff and given to me, so that while the debate over education reform moves forward, I will have heard directly from you about the issues you care about the most.

I know that by working together we can make sure every child gets a great education and can go as far as their hard work and dreams will take them.

Thank you for your input, I look forward to working with you to help secure the future for Minnesota's children.

Sincerely,

Amy Klobuchar

How you can get involved:

My staff will be traveling the state through the months of April and May to hear directly from Minnesotans about ways to improve No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and make it work for our students and our schools. For a schedule of upcoming education forums, click here.

Below, people from all over the state can contact me with suggestions on how to improve NCLB. Please be sure to include the topic of your comment (i.e. classroom size, school funding, special education programs, etc) in the subject line, and do not include attachments.

You may also submit your ideas by regular mail. Please limit your comments to three pages, and mail them to:
