Kagen Small Business Initiative

“Small businesses are the economic engines of America. They provide nearly 80% of new jobs and generate 50% of our gross domestic product.  I encourage small business owners in northeast Wisconsin to take advantage of programs that can help them create jobs and rebuild our economy.  Together, we will build a better future for all of us.”

-  Congressman Steve Kagen, M.D.

There are some new small business programs you may be able to take advantage of.  The Small Business Administration’s revised 7(a) program allows owners to get loans of up to $2 million with a substantial government guarantee.  The SBA’s 504 program provides a guarantee on up to $4 million in financing for major economic development projects.

To take advantage of opportunities for your small business, follow these three steps:

1) Draft a business plan.  Contact a SCORE chapter (http://www.greenbayscore.org  or http://www.scorefoxcities.com/), the Wisconsin Small Business Development Center (http://www.wisconsinsbdc.org/) or your local Chamber of Commerce for assistance in putting together a plan that will improve your chances of obtaining a loan.

2) Contact the Wisconsin Small Business Administration (http://www.sba.gov/localresources/district/wi/index.html)for information on loans.

3) Apply for a loan through a commercial lender.  A list of approved lenders can be found by clicking here.  Shop around to multiple lenders if you are turned down.
