Land and Sea Travel Requirements
On June 1, 2009, the U.S. government will implement the full requirements of the land and sea phase of Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. U.S. citizens must present a passport book, passport card, or other travel documents approved by the U.S. government to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda at land borders and sea ports of entry. Air Travel Requirements
On January 23, 2007, the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) was implemented by the U.S. Department of State as a result of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004. Effective October 1, 2007, all U.S. Citizens traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean region are required to present a U.S. passport book or other WHTI-compliant documentation to enter or depart from the United States.
