Cantor: "Kaine's Response Insufficient"

RICHMOND , VA – In May, members of the Virginia Delegation sent a letter to Governor Tim Kaine asking him to work together to prevent the transfer of known terrorists into Virginia .  Last week, Governor Kaine responded, and while the response is appreciated, Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-07) does not believe that the Governor's response was sufficient, and fails to adequately protect the residents of the Commonwealth.

In January 2009, President Barack Obama issued an executive order to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility in Cuba .  Questions have gone unanswered, and decisions have yet to be made over how and where to house the 250 suspected terrorists and enemy combatants held there.

Cantor commented on the Governor's letter:

“The citizens of Virginia look to their Governor to keep them safe.  Governor Kaine's refusal to even investigate the consequences of bringing terrorist detainees to Virginia is an abdication of his responsibility to the families of the Commonwealth.  Tim Kaine should focus on being the Governor of Virginia first, before his role as Chairman of the Democrat National Committee.”
