Description:
This data file set consists of one file generated for a descriptive epidemiologic study by Donna Cragle of cancer versus non-cancer deaths of residents of Lamar County, Mississippi, the location of a large salt dome. The salt dome, now called the Salmon Site, was previously known as the Tatum Dome Test Site.
This study was conducted to determine if there was an association between usual residence near the Salmon Site and death due to cancer. The analysis file contains demographic information on 2,185 residents who died between 1980 and 1991. As shown on the summary death table, there were 562 cancer deaths and 1,623 deaths due to other causes.
The analysis file, ANAL0997, includes demographic variables, cause of death (ICD9), and distance of usual residence from the Salmon Site.
Number of data files: 1
Sites: Salmon Site
Notes: This study differed from the those in the DOE Health and Mortality Studies. Salmon Site was not a DOE "facility", however, testing was performed and other studies conducted revealed an absence of radionuclides in the this study would examine the death distribution and analyze cancer vs. non-cancer deaths, without using quantifiable dosimetry data.
