- Office of Justice Programs (OJP) 15_0402: 1) On 5/8/09, staff members from the Office of Audit, Assessment and Management (OAAM), Office of the CFO, and the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) participated in a conference call with members from the GAO Recovery Act state review teams. They discussed possible risk indicators that GAO could use to pick the sample of local Recovery Act grant recipients. 2) On 5/6/09, the Director of OAAM and the Finance Director for the Justice Management Division attended an Association of Government Accountants meeting in Baltimore on the subject of the Recovery Act. They met with accountants from local jurisdictions to answer questions about Recovery Act funding and reporting requirements. 3) As of 5/7/09, OJP had received over 1,000 applications for Recovery Act local Byrne/JAG awards. 4) BJA facilitated a linkage between the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board (Board) and the National White Collar Crime Center that will permit the Board to have access to the Internet Crime Complaint Center. This access will assist the Board in tracking and identifying potential Recovery Act fraud and abuse via the internet. 5) On 5/6/09 OJP made 12 local Byrne/JAG awards totaling $2,996,137. 6) On 5/6/09 the peer review process started for the BJA Combating Criminal Narcotic Activity stemming from the Southern Border of the Untied States and the Rural Law Enforcement solicitations. 7) The BJA Tribal Construction solicitation closed on 5/4/09, receiving 46 applications. 8) The Bureau of Justice Statistics solicitation for the Tribal Crime Data Collection Analysis and Estimation Project received 15 applications. 9) On 5/4/09, the Deputy Associate Attorney General, the OJP Deputy Assistant Attorney General, the Director of OAAM, and a procurement officer from the Justice Management Division met with Don Salo, Assistant Director, Procurement Compliance, at the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board to discuss the Board's work concerning Recovery Act contracts.

- Office of Violence Against Women (OVW) 15_0411: 1) OVW will potentially have 44 RA STOP Formula Grants, totaling more than $1,000,000.00, and two (2) RA State Coalitions awards, totaling more than $155,000, ready for the Vice President to announce on Friday, May 15. A list of potential awards and funding levels is provided at the end of this message. 2) OVW continues internal processing for all five RA grant programs. This includes reviewing application scores, determining funding recommendations to present to the Acting Director, reviewing budgets and identifying high risk grantees.
- Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) 15_0412: 1) The COPS Office continues to review and evaluate CHRP applications to identify potential data errors. As of 5/8/09, the first round of data verification has been completed and 97% of the issues identified in the second round have been resolved. 2) COPS Office staff met with city officials from Tulsa, Oklahoma to brief them on the CHRP Program. 3) As a follow up to the USA Today story about law enforcement agencies barred from receiving COPS funding as a result of past conduct identified in audits by the DOJ Office of the Inspector General, the COPS Office will prepare talking points and additional information regarding this issue in advance of the Associate Attorney General's hearing next week.
- Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) 15_0699: 1) On May 8, 2009, the ATF Special Agent Exam was administered in Los Angeles to 91 applicants. Applicants who pass this exam will be in the pool used to hire new agents under the Recovery Act.
