Local Health Centers Receive Funding

(Warwick, R.I.) Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) today will vote for H.R. 3043, the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Act for FY2008.  This bill will appropriate $607 billion for many domestic programs across the country, including critical educational and health care programs.

Included in the bill are two health care programs championed by Langevin.

The Northwest Community Health Care will receive $300,000 for the construction of an 8,000 square foot community health center on Danielson Pike in Foster. Northwest Health Care currently operates a facility which provides primary care, dental and mental health and other public health services to more than 6,200 residents of northwestern Rhode Island regardless of the patients’ ability to pay.

The Comprehensive Community Action Program, Inc. (CCAP) will receive $100,000 for the facilities and equipment for their new oral health program for children from low income families, located in Warwick.  The oral health program is currently being integrated into CCAP’s existing community based health centers in Cranston and Warwick.

“I am proud to be able to help the support the work of these two community health centers,” said Langevin. “Community health centers play a critical role in our health care system, providing primary and preventative care to some of Rhode Island's hardest-to-reach populations. Their clients deserve to receive comprehensive, quality care in a safe, welcoming environment. By working with these Rhode Island programs to improve their infrastructure we are making sure they can serve their populations in the most up-to-date facilities.”
