(Warwick, R.I.)–Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) recently met with members of the Broad Street Merchants Association. He toured local businesses such as the Compare Foods Market, La Gran Parada Restaurant, El Vecino Market and Mi Sueno Restaurant, in addition to many others. “Minority owned businesses are a driving force of the Rhode Island economy,” said Langevin. “In addition to the economic benefits, minority-owned businesses provide hope by showing that everyone in the community has a chance to succeed.” “We can all be proud of the progress we have made in eliminating some of the obstacles that in the past hindered minority entrepreneurs from maximizing their talents and achieving their goals. However, while many minority business owners are prospering, some continue to face barriers that keep them from enjoying unhindered success,” said Langevin. “We must work together to ensure that minority-owned businesses have access to the capital and services provided by the Small Business Administration and private resources that will enable these entrepreneurs to expand and improve their businesses.” “In Congress, I will continue to fight for critical loan and technical assistance program funding to ensure that everyone has equal opportunities for success,” continued Langevin. -30- |
