CONGRESS TO CONVENE COMMEMORATIVE SESSION
IN NEW YORK CITY

Langevin to Attend Historic, Congressional Recognition Nearing
One Year Anniversary of September 11th Attacks

(Washington, D.C.)–Congressman Jim Langevin today announced that he will participate in the Commemorative Joint Meeting of Congress scheduled for Friday, September 6, 2002 in New York City in remembrance of the victims and heroes of September 11, 2001, and in recognition of the courage and spirit of the people of New York City.  Langevin last visited the site in October of last year.

“My thoughts and prayers remain with the victims and families affected by the attacks of September 11, especially those in Rhode Island,” said Congressman Langevin.  “Traveling to New York is one important way that members of the United States House of Representatives can show support for a city that was dramatically changed but a year ago.  We will never forget that horrific day and we will continue to wage war on terror.  Our resolve and love for freedom will not be broken by terrorism.”

The Commemorative Joint Meeting will be held at Federal Hall, which is five blocks from “Ground Zero.”  Federal Hall is also the first meeting place of the United States Congress where the Bill of Rights was drafted and proposed and where George Washington was sworn in as the first President of the United States.

Following the joint meeting at Federal Hall and a luncheon meeting hosted by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Langevin and other Members of Congress in attendance will travel to Ground Zero to lay a wreath in honor of those who lost their lives on September 11th.
