Technical Abstract: NCCCWA and collaborators are constructing genetic maps for rainbow trout to identify loci affecting aquaculture production efficiency. Microsatellite markers derived from repeat-enriched libraries, ESTs, BACs of interest and other salmonid species are being genotyped on six reference families (offspring/family =30) representing well characterized domestic strains. Initial linkage analyses resulted in a female map including 310 markers in 60 linkage groups spanning 1198.2 cM and a male map including 344 markers in 31 linkage groups which spans 323.1 cM. The 3.7 female/male average recombination ratio is not significantly different from what has been published for rainbow trout. The most recent version of the genetic maps will be presented.
