EcoCheck releases Bay report cardChesapeake Bay Report Card Shows Improvements, Degradation
The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science and EcoCheck, a NOAA-UMCES partnershop, have released the Bay report card for 2008. Overall, the health of the Bay earned a C-. A new stream health indicator was introduced, and report cards for individual tributaries are available.
Reauthorization bill introduced in CongressReauthorization Bill Introduced in Congress
On March 26, 2008, H.R. 1771, a bill to reauthorize the Chesapeake Bay Office of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, was introduced and referred to the House Natural Resource Committee. The text of the bill is available via the Library of Congress' Thomas search function.

APRIL TEMPS SLIGHTLY COOLER THAN AVERAGE - The April 2009 temperature for the contiguous United States was below the long-term average, based on records going back to 1895, according to an analysis by NOAA's National Climatic Data Center.
 
MILD SOLAR STORM SEASON PREDICTED - Although its peak is still four years away, a new active period of Earth-threatening solar storms will be the weakest since 1928, predicts an international panel of experts led by NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center.
