Dr. Zimba is a Microbiologist working in the Catfish Genetics Research Unit’s CRIS “Optimizing catfish/water quality interactions to increase catfish production efficiency.”
His major efforts include the development of rapid assessment methods for harmful algae, including toxin and off-flavor producing species, development of fertilization recommendations to improve catfish fry survival, as well as, a general improvement in our understanding of pond function (bacteria, phytoplankton, zooplankton, nutrient inter-relationships). Methodologies include remote sensing, ultrasound, as well as chemical and physical approaches to optimize pond water conditions.
