LANGEVIN LAUNCHES NEIGHBORHOOD OFFICE PROGRAM

(Warwick, R.I.)–Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) officially announced his Neighborhood Office Program today at the Elmwood Community Center. In an effort to strengthen community outreach, Langevin’s district office began meeting with constituents in the community to answer questions and listen to concerns at the beginning of the summer.

Constituent caseworkers help people navigate a wide range of issues from immigration to housing, Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid, among others. Neighborhood Office hours are held on the first Tuesday of the month.

“My staff is always available to answer questions and help guide people through the sometimes arduous task of dealing with the government,” said Langevin. “Having neighborhood office hours, however, gives us the personal contact that is so important when trying to offer assistance.”

The program started in June and since then constituent concerns have primarily centered on how to find adequate affordable housing and Social Security. While the office has held town meetings throughout the state before, the program formalizes the process with a consistent time and place for people to meet with office representatives.

“I hope the outreach will help to continue to build on the trust that many constituents already have in my office,” said Langevin.
