Interpretive Summary: Surveillance for mosquito-borne diseases following hurricane Jeanne in Gonaïves Haiti failed to detect an outbreak but identified as many cases of acute West Nile infection as acute dengue and malaria.
Technical Abstract: Following Hurricane Jeanne in September 2004, surveillance for mosquito-borne diseases in Gonaïves Haiti identified three patients with malaria, two with acute dengue infections, and two with acute West Nile virus infections among 116 febrile patients. These are the first reported human West Nile virus infections on the island of Hispaniola.
