3 Channel Bridge Balance Memory Patch

Load for FM-4

To reduce the effect of electronic crosstalk signals in Window channel measurements induced by high Shortwave (bright) scenes, a bridge balance memory patch was developed. This patch was intended to modify the Window bridge balance set point to midrange (2048). The first test of this patch was performed on-orbit during the period shown below.

The memory patch that was uploaded inadvertently set the bridge balance set points to midrange (2048) for all 3 channels. This reduced the dynamic range for the Total and Shortwave channels leading to saturated radiometric measurements. Saturations typically occurred for the brightest earth-viewing scenes, resulting in data dropout at high radiance values. See the data quality summaries pertaining to the science data during this period.

September 2005

Summary of FM-3 and FM-4 Operations:

Regular Internal calibrations of both instruments were performed on September 7, 14, 21, and 28.
Blackbody only Internal calibrations were performed on September 2, 5, 9, 12, 16, 19, 23, 26, and 30.
Solar calibrations were performed on September 21.

FM-3:   The instrument operated in the cross-track scan mode.

FM-4:   The instrument operated in the cross-track scan mode and the SW anomaly spanned the whole month.

For the FM-4 solar calibration on September 21, the elevation gimbal was parked at the solar calibration position (236 degrees). This is the same position being used for the MAM Characterization tests. This parked position is temporarily overriding the default MAM scan profile.

MAM Characterization Tests

MAM Characterization tests were performed on FM-4 during the month.
Dates and times are listed below:

050903 01:40:08.32 --> Azimuth to spare_1, 261 degrees (near MAM Characterization start point)
050903 01:42:04.32 --> Set Azimuth B position to 298.984 degrees
050903 01:42:08.32 --> Set Azimuth A position to 278.522 degrees
050903 01:44:04.31 --> Set Elevation to MAM Stare (MAM Characterization test)

February 2007

Summary of FM-3 and FM-4 Operations:

Regular Internal calibrations of both instruments were performed on February 7, 14, 21, and 28.
Blackbody only Internal calibrations were performed on February 2, 5, 9, 12, 16, 19, 23, and 26.

FM-3:   The instrument operated in the cross-track scan mode.

FM-4:   The instrument operated in the cross-track scan mode and the SW anomaly spanned the whole month.

FM-4:   On February 28 at 18:40 UT during an uplink for a DAP modified code patch, a parameter value was uploaded as -29496 instead of -29456, this caused the Total Detector Control Temperature and the Total Detector Monitor Temperature to decrease. Once the incorrect parameter value was discovered the correct value was uploaded during pass at 23:32 UT and temperatures stablized. The commands are listed below:

DOY 059 Time 18:36z
