The GMR Welcomes Kate Carpenter

The GMR welcomes Kathryn (Kate) Carpenter as Assistant University Librarian for the Health Sciences (AULHS) at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). As the AULHS, Kate also serves as the Director of the Regional Medical Library for the Greater Midwest Region. Prior to joining the UIC staff on November 1, 2007, she most recently served as Professor of Library Science and Library Director at Purdue University Calumet in Hammond, Indiana from 1998 to October 2007. Previously, she was University Librarian at Valparaiso University from 1993-98 and prior to that, served at the UIC University Library, including several positions at the Library of the Health Sciences, most recently as Acting Head of the Library of the Health Sciences’ (LHS) Regional Sites at Rockford, Peoria and Urbana. Kate earned her B.A. and M.S. in library science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is a member of the American Library Association, the Association of College and Research Libraries and the Library Administration and Management Association. She is an alumnus of the UCLA Senior Fellows Institute and the Bryn Mawr Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration, and achieved distinguished member status in the Academy of Health Information Professionals while at the UIC University Library. Kate is the author of Sourcebook on Parenting and Child Care (Oryx Press, 1995) and over twenty articles. Her research interests include consumer behavior, resources to support parents and barriers to information access.
