Yukon River Basin

As part of a broader study of the water quality and nutrient fluxes in the Yukon River Basin, our research group is investigating the microbial diversity in soil cores. Understanding microbial diversity in permafrost areas is an important part of assessing the impact of carbon and nutrient release from soils as permafrost melts. Using techniques that include MPN analysis, qPCR, and Biologs, we are addressing the question, “What is the microbial abundance and diversity in active layer soils and permafrost soils in the Yukon River Basin?”
