New Web-Based Video Explains Planning Near You
The Pinellas County Planning Department, in cooperation with PCC-TV, debuts a new, monthly web-based program to explain land-use issues. Planning Near You is designed to detail upcoming plan amendments, rezoning proposals and code changes for public hearing before the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners each month. Planning Director Brian Smith presents each item in an easy-to-understand, conversational format so that citizens can get information about potential changes near them. more>> watch video

Homeless Housing Program Opens
Grove Park Village, a new development dedicated to providing permanent housing for homeless persons, has opened on Grove Park Avenue in East Lealman. Twelve single occupancy one- and two-bedroom units were developed by the St. Petersburg non-profit, Boley Centers, Inc, aided with Pinellas County funding. more>>

Food That’s In When School Is Out
Children can still receive nutritious meals during summer break at many recreation and community centers, school sites, churches and day camps throughout Pinellas County. The Summer Food Service Program, sponsored by the Pinellas County Health & Human Services Department, will run from June 9 through Aug. 11. more>>

County Recovery Funds Tracked Online
Pinellas County unveiled a new website, Pinellas County Recovery, which allows the public to track the county’s portion of the Economic Stimulus program. more>>

State Reports on H1N1 (Swine Flu)
The Florida Department of Health Florida is asking anyone who is ill to stay home from work or school to avoid contaminating someone. A toll free information line has been established to address an increasing number of calls from the public requesting Swine Flu information. The number is 1-800-342-3557 and it is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. more>>

38th Avenue N. to Close for Road Improvements
Pinellas County Public Works recently closed 38th Avenue N., between 33rd Street North and 31st Street N. in St. Petersburg, for road improvements. The expected road closure is approximately 107 days, pending weather conditions. more>>

What’s Down the Road for Regional Transportation
The Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority (TBARTA) announces a public hearing to present its Regional Transportation Master Plan for Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, and Sarasota counties. The hearing is scheduled for Monday, May 11, at 6 p.m., at the Dr. Blaise F. Alfano Conference and Banquet Center, 11606 N. McKinley Drive, Tampa. more>>
