Kanjorski Announces $2 million for Pittston Projects

PITTSTON, Pa. - Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski (PA-11) today announced that the highway and transportation bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives includes $2 million for Pittston.

Congressman Kanjorski sought the funding for the City of Pittston's downtown revitalization project, which will include new lighting, street enhancements, meters, sidewalks, curbs and crosswalks.

"The funding would provide the means for the city to continue its revitalization plan in the downtown area, and Pittston will continue moving forward under the leadership of Mayor Lombardo and City Council. Investing in our transportation infrastructure is imperative to improving the economy of Northeastern Pennsylvania," Congressman Kanjorski said. "I was pleased to be able to include this in the House version of the bill."

Pittston Mayor Michael Lombardo said the money would enable the city to complete its streetscaping plan and thanked Congressman Kanjorski for his support.

"This is continued demonstration of the Congressman's commitment not only to Northeastern Pennsylvania, but in this case, Pittston specifically. These are federal dollars that will have a practical day-to-day impact but also will support the economic development plan we have going on in our downtown," Mayor Lombardo said.

The 357-to-65 House vote on April 2 approved a six-year program that includes $284 billion for highway and other transportation projects around the country. The Senate has already passed a $318 billion version of the bill, and the two houses must iron out an agreement before the final bill goes to the White House.

"Efficient transportation improves the economy, and I expect Congress and the President will finalize this legislation over the next several weeks," Congressman Kanjorski said.
