Kanjorski Announces FEMA Approval for Public Assistance for Carbon, Columbia, Lackawanna, Luzerne and Monroe counties

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski (PA-11) today announced that Carbon, Columbia, Lackawanna, Luzerne and Monroe counties have been approved to receive funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for public infrastructure and buildings damaged by Tropical Depression Ivan in September. Congressman Kanjorski urged President Bush in a letter on September 23 to allow FEMA to give the maximum amount of federal assistance possible. These five counties initially were approved to receive funds for debris removal and emergency protective measures only.

"I am glad that FEMA approved these five counties to receive funding for this important reconstruction and repair work. Northeastern Pennsylvania suffered millions of dollars in damage because of Tropical Depression Ivan. The money authorized by FEMA will allow local communities to supplement the repair costs of infrastructure and buildings that they otherwise would not have, and I am pleased that FEMA realized the need here," Congressman Kanjorski said.
