bebe stores, inc. Announces Fiscal Third Quarter 2009 Sales

BRISBANE, CALIF. — April 9, 2009 — bebe stores, inc. (Nasdaq: BEBE) today reported retail sales for the fiscal quarter ended April 4, 2009 of $122.0 million versus $147.5 million for the fiscal quarter ended April 5, 2008. Retail sales decreased approximately 17% compared to the corresponding fiscal quarter in the prior year. Same store sales for the fiscal quarter ended April 4, 2009 decreased 23.5% compared to a decrease of 7.6% for the comparable fiscal quarter in the prior year.

Retail sales for the year-to-date period ended ended April 4, 2009 were $455.6 million compared to $507.9 million for the year-to-date period ended April 5, 2008. Retail sales decreased approximately 10% compared to the corresponding year-to-date period in the prior year. Same store sales for the year-to-date period ending April 4, 2009 decreased 18.2% compared to a decrease of 8.3% for the year-to-date period ending April 5, 2008.

As of April 4, 2009, finished goods inventory per square foot decreased 17.6% compared to the prior year.
