Jennifer and others interested in the topic of ESOL for Healthcare Workers, here's information on publications from my colleague in NYC, Maria Luisa Casteneda, who produced two texts you might find useful and how to order the same. thanks Georges Marceau 1199SEIU Training Fund, Syracuse, NY “How Are You Doing Today?” ESL Student Book: Home Care Edition A Contextualized Approach to Learning English as a Second Language Beginning to Intermediate Levels “How Are You Doing Today?” ESL Student Book: Health Care Edition A Contextualized Approach to Learning English as a Second Language Intermediate Level The How Are You Doing Today? ESL Series provides you with ready-to-use lessons in an easy-to-follow format. The ESL Student Book: Home Care Edition is intended particularly for home care workers with a basic knowledge of English. The ESL Student Book: Health Care Edition is for students who have an intermediate level of command of the English language. Both student books are also appropriate for any beginning to advanced learner since the health content provides a useful, real-life context for acquiring English. This series is driven by two goals: 1) to assist students in developing the language skills they need in health care settings, and 2) to build background knowledge in health topics for students who may eventually pursue a career in health care. The lessons in How Are You Doing Today? are arranged in thematic units related to health or health care, and can be taught in any order. Each lesson contains materials for two three-hour sessions or more, and includes an illustration, pre-reading questions, a vocabulary list, a grammar point, dialogues or texts, practice exercises, a speaking activity and a writing topic.
