For those of you in the New York City area, here is information on an
upcoming workshop on designing accessible web sites. This workshop will be
held at Baruch College's Computer Center for Visually Impaired People:

Introduction to Accessible Web Design

This 2-part seminar is designed for the experienced Web user, but HTML
novice. Individuals who are interested in taking Part 2 must take Part 1 as
a prerequisite; however, individuals can take Part 1 alone.

Part 1 will explore issues relating to the accessibility of the World Wide
Web. Estimates are that over half the world's population has one or more
life
altering impairments. The trend is to design or retrofit all sites to
comply with Section 508 and other statutes.

Topics include: Accessibility as Design Construct; Size and Scope of the
Market; Disability and Content Barriers; Review of Assistive Technologies;
Legal impact -- ADA and Section 508; Review Web and Internet resources
concerning validation and testing, authoring, correction and repair
utilities and more; Identification of research and other organizations in
the accessibility field including the Web Accessibility Initiative.

Part 2 will teach participants in a hands-on session how to write a simple
accessible Web page.

If there is enough interest, a full course will be offered next semester.

Both seminars will be taught by Bud Kraus, President of Trynet.com, and
Webmaster.

Part 1: CVPS W0010 A - Thursday, April 29 - $75
Part 2: CVPS W0010 B - Thursday, May 6 - $75
