We use the Bader Reading and Language Inventory. It serves k-12 levels and esl. It has sections for learning disabilities too. It is very inexpensive, about $40, and you can legally photocopy it!

>Arizona is using the BEST (Literacy and Oral)and for those students assessing at Level IV or V, the TABE Reading and Language. Are we happy about this, no, but the cost involved in developing a "valid and reliable" test in phenomenal. Unfortunately, the BEST and BEST Plus are two separate tests, and scores do not correlate. Our teachers have said that the BEST is good for the lower level students (ESOL Pre - II), but not for the higher level.

>In addition to validity and reliability, we also have to look at manageability, training and cost factors. Additionally, how do these tests match up for "special needs"? We were told we could not enlarge any of the graphics on the BEST, yet, phone books certainly have larger type now than in the 70's.
