The "Housing and Home" issue of the Change Agent has just arrived. The
newspaper provides information and classroom activities on social
justice issues, community life and civic participation.

The Housing and Home issue is divided into four sections. The "Images
of Home" section offers provocative writings about home from adult
learners and others, and invites the readers to do their own writing
along the same lines. Jane Erickson, for example, uses her own work and
life experience to analyze public housing definitions of homelessness.
In the "Housing Costs and Values" section there are activities that show
readers how to calculate the percentage of one's income that must go to
provide adequate housing. There are also sections on "Struggles for
Housing" and "Solutions."

The materials within these 28 pages speak through the voices of
students, teachers, economists, and poets - and with a bravery that
names current housing policy for what it is. There are informative
articles and teaching activities for a variety of contexts.

The Change Agent is designed for use in intermediate-level ESOL, ABE,
GED and adult diploma classes. To subscribe go to
www.nelrc.org/changeagent. Two issues per year for $10, including
shipping. Bulk orders of 25 or more issues are $1 per issue, plus
shipping.
