There is one to take up in pedagogical points. Students' academic careers
can be ruined by charges of plagiarism, yet Powell recently went before the
UN Sec. Council and cited a British Foreign Office report on Iraq that was
largely plagiarized material from an Oxford graduate student. Neither Powell
nor Blair checked, but rather, furthered the plagiarism.

The issue isn't just plagiarism but academic integrity. We see this now in
the case of science articles where other scientists have signed on as
'co-authors' when they (1) didn't conduct the research, (2) didn't help
write the paper, but (3) didn't even check the basic facts of the paper and
research before they signed on.

Back to politics, momentarily. Biden has no one but himself to blame on this
because as a prominent Senator he was bombarding Clinton with requests to
make war on Iraq. His plagiarism was interesting because it was a campaign
speech that contained lifted text from a British politician, Neil Kinnock.
