I have (yet another) request of fellow listserv members... My colleagues and I developed a bilingual (English/Spanish) audio CD this year, that provides basic information about unrelated blood stem cell transplants for patients who are considering the procedure(s) as a treatment option. We intended the CD to be a useful resource for patients and family members who: - Have limited literacy - Prefer to learn by listening - Speak Spanish as a preferred language, or - Are English language-learners We printed and distributed 2,000 CDs as a pilot project. We've already sent out evaluations to staff at transplant centers and migrant health clinics throughout the country and feedback has been very positive. We would like to add another dimension to our evaluation process, by having it reviewed from a health literacy/accessible language perspective. Our hope is to refine the product before we print more, or add more languages. Each language is about 15-20 minutes long and is accompanied by a pull-out insert. If you are interested in having a listen about a medical treatment that is probably unfamiliar to you, please call (612) 617-8336 or email me privately and I'll happily send you a packet to review. Unfortunately, I have a limited number of CDs left, so it will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Many thanks, Martha Burton Santibanez Outreach Specialist, National Marrow Donor Program (612) 617-8336 mburton@nmdp.org
