Good morning,
I wonder if anyone else heard the report on NPR's Marketplace section this
morning about the medical school in WV that has developed a curriculum for
4th year medical students to teach (or at least foster) respect and better
communication between physicians and patients. They did not use the term
"health literacy" but the issues were the same.  The administrator they
interviewed was Sarah McCarthy.

I think steps are being made.

Thanks for your comments Audrey, very good points indeed!  I dislike when
doctors talk to me in their language instead of my own (which is English
:)).  What a wonderful suggestion to bring it down for everyone.  I have
included that in my awareness presentations to medical staff.  The doctors,
however, are not attending those talks. :(  Lisa
