Best, Debbie New Pfizer Foundation Grant Program to Fund HIV/AIDS Prevention Efforts in Southern United States Deadline: June 25, 2003 (Letters of Interest) The Pfizer Foundation (http://www.pfizer.com/subsites/philanthropy/) established by Pfizer Inc., has announced a new grant program aimed at preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS in the southern United States, with particular focus on African- American and Latino communities. The Pfizer Foundation Southern HIV/AIDS Prevention Initiative will direct $3 million over three years to fund highly targeted prevention programs for underserved populations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. During the three-year initiative, grants ranging from $25,000 to $50,000 will be awarded to ten to twenty community-based prevention programs. To be eligible, organizations must have 501(c)(3) status, serve multicultural communities in one or more of the nine states, and have a primary mission to provide HIV/AIDS services (prevention, treatment, or support services). Preference for grants will be given to small and midsize organizations in rural and urban areas that have a demonstrated track record of prevention and service to multicultural communities that are disproportionately vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. Additional priority will be given to programs that focus on HIV/AIDS education and prevention, either primary (among non-HIV-positive individuals) or secondary (from HIV-positive individuals to others).
