The Institute for Healthcare Advancement (IHA) will present the 2003 Bambi
Holzer Health Literacy Awards, at the 2nd Annual Health Literacy Conference:
"Organizational Solutions to Low Health Literacy", May 15-16, 2003.  The
Bambi Holzer Health Literacy Awards honor individuals or groups who have
positively affected and contributed to advancing healthcare literacy in the
areas of Research, Innovative Programs, and Published Materials.

One winner in each category will receive complimentary tuition to the 2003
IHA Health Literacy Conference: "Organizational Solutions to Low Health
Literacy"; a $500 check; handsome award plaque; roundtrip coach airfare (if
outside the greater Los Angeles/Orange County area); and 2 nights' hotel
accommodations at the Anaheim Marriott.  Awards will be presented at the
Bambi Holzer Health Literacy Awards Luncheon on Thursday, May 15, at 11:30
a.m. at the Anaheim Convention Center, in Anaheim, California.

Submit a nomination no later than April 11, 2003 at 5:00 p.m.  Nomination
forms may be obtained by calling (800) 434-4633, or by downloading online at

Description:
The mission of the Institute for Healthcare Advancement (IHA) is to advance
healthcare delivery through demonstration of innovative programs and
education.  IHA is a California, not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) private
operating foundation.

The focus of this year's conference is "Organizational Solutions to Low
Health Literacy."  The conference brings together representatives from
public groups, governmental agencies, and private organizations to share
their experiences in developing and implementing programs to fight low
health literacy.  Discussion topics include:  strategies used, populations
targeted, costs, barriers encountered and overcome, and methods to raise
funds.  Breakout Sessions will be offered both days, with morning sessions
repeated in the afternoon.  Among the breakout session topics:  evaluating
reading levels, online literacy resources, research, focus groups, grant
writing, writing for low literacy, and more.

Continuing education credits are available for CE and CHES hours.
