and an opportunity for 4th grade students to learn the importance of native plants
Wildflower seeding campaign to honor Lady Bird Johnson
The Statesman has begun a five-year fundraising campaign to buy wildflower seeds to spread along highways, byways, parks and in neighborhoods throughout Central Texas.
A special Lady Bird Legacy seed packet will be given to fourth-grade students, who will learn about the importance of wildflowers and how to create their own gardens.
The campaign, which began August 27, on what would have been President Lyndon B. Johnson's 100th birthday, will continue through 2012, when Lady Bird would have turned 100. Our goal is to join in Lady Bird's dream of beautifying America.
In this 10-chapter serialized story, Robyn Zimmerman is a young reporter with a big assignment. It's Election Day and she is covering the neighborhood election for her very own newspaper. The story explores issues, political parties, debates, and the importance of informed citizenship and voting. This story publishes in Classifieds on Wednesdays, beginning September 24, skipping November 2 and concludes on December 3.
