The University of California's relationship with young students begins well beyond their application for admission.

Early Academic Outreach Program
With offices at all UC campuses, the Early Academic Outreach Program helps students who have the potential for college, but just need a little help getting ready. EAOP counselors work with schools and students, who participate in challenging, rewarding academic programs that provide the extra academic edge which many students in private schools take for granted.

COSMOS: The California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science
At COSMOS, high school students who excel in mathematics and science get to learn cutting-edge science, engineering and mathematics from UC faculty and researchers. Innovative course "clusters" engage high school students in the culture and practice of science inquiry. COSMOS programs, which explore such topics as marine mammal biology, robotics, biomedical sciences, astrophysics and mechanical engineering, include course study, hands-on labs, field trips and guest lectures. MESA / Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement
MESA is one of the country's oldest and best-known programs that assists students to become highly trained technological professionals. Currently working with more than 30,000 students throughout California from elementary through university levels, MESA serves educationally disadvantaged students and, to the extent possible by law, emphasizes participation by students from groups with low eligibility rates for four-year colleges.

The Puente Project
The Puente Project provides teaching, counseling and mentoring to increase the number of educationally underserved students who enroll in four-year colleges and universities, earn their degrees, and return to the community as mentors and leaders to future generations. UC College Prep Initiative (UCCP)
UCCP develops and distributes high-quality courses and course content to benefit California students, with a special emphasis on helping underserved students prepare for college eligibility. UCCP makes much of its course content freely available to California students and teachers. At the same time, UCCP is developing exciting new content and courses from the various UC campuses, programs and resources for use online and in schools. UCCP currently offers students, educators and schools access to its content through digital lessons, open courses, and licensed courses.

GEAR UP
GEAR UP stimulates interest among middle-school students in going to college and increases awareness of entrance requirements and financial aid. With this supportive network of counselors, faculty and family, a higher proportion of these students, particularly ones from backgrounds and communities that have not historically pursued a college education, will enroll and succeed in post-secondary education.

Edward Teller Education Center
This Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory-based program provides extensive teacher professional development programs and enrichment programs for K-12 students in the Central Valley.
