For more than a century, the University of California has contributed greatly to the San Joaquin Valley, its people and the local economy. Shaping the Valley's future today, UC conducts valuable research and implements a wide variety of educational, health care and agricultural programs in the Valley. UC currently has nearly 40 offices and facilities in the region and UC Merced, the first major research university to be built in the United States during the 21st Century, opened in Fall 2005 with nearly 1,000 students.
