National History Day (NHD), a non-profit history education program dedicated to improving the way history is taught and learned, is providing Our Documents student and teacher contests to encourage use of the 100 milestone documents in projects and lessons.
Understanding Our Documents: A Competition for Students Students grades 6-12 are invited to enter the Our Documents contest by using one or more of 100 milestone documents in projects related to the 2005 National History Day theme, Communication in History.

Teaching Our Documents: A Lesson Competition for Educators invites teachers to develop and test a classroom lesson focusing on one or several of the 100 Milestone Documents in United States history.

NHD is not just one day, but a yearlong education organization that makes history come alive through active student learning and teacher programs. Students create documentaries, performances, exhibits, and papers as part of a national contest. Teachers can take part in a lesson plan competition or participate in workshop and institutes.
