The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) plans to issue a Request for Applications (RFA) in 2007 for the 2008 NIDA Avant-Garde Award Program for HIV/AIDS. This program will support individual scientists of exceptional creativity who propose approaches in the forefront of drug abuse and HIV/AIDS research Scientists are sought who propose cutting edge – and possibly transformative - approaches to major challenges in biomedical and behavioral research on drug abuse and HIV/AIDS. Approximately 2 to 3 awards of $500,000 in direct costs for up to five years each are anticipated.
This award is meant to support individuals who intend to pursue innovative, high risk-high payoff research directions. The program is not intended simply to expand the funding of an already supported research project.
