Resource Library Responsibilities

The Resource Libraries in the South Central Region are committed to fulfilling the following responsibilities:

  • Assist the RML in the planning, coordination and implementation of Network programs in the Region
  • Participate in the Region's outreach programs
  • Provide health professionals, Primary Access Libraries and other Resource Libraries with access to journal articles, books and audiovisuals via interlibrary lending mechanisms as set forth in the NLM Interlibrary Loan Plan
  • Provide unaffiliated health professionals within their subregional areas with access to information services
  • Provide health professionals with access to the MEDLARS databases at a charge per minimum search which does not exceed the national maximum established by the National Library of Medicine
  • Participate fully in the DOCLINE system
  • Contribute their institutions' serial holdings data to the National Biomedical Serials Holdings Database and submit annual updates of holdings information to the NLM in the standard specified format
  • Contribute data to the Annual Survey of Medical School Libraries in the United States and Canada sponsored by the Association of Academic Health Science Library Directors, or provide the NN/LM SCR with equivalent information
  • Assist in publicizing the activities of the NN/LM SCR program in the Region and in fostering cooperation among Network institutions, especially in their defined subregional areas
  • Participate in an annual meeting of the Resource Library Directors in the Region to determine regional Resource Library policies and procedures and to develop plans for the implementaton of Resource Library programs in the Region
  • Share staff expertise with institutions in a defined geographic area
  • Adhere to Network preformance standards for fill rate and throughput for interlibrary loan service.
