Regional Symposium Award Opportunity from the NN/LM SCR

Regional Symposium Award:
Amount of funding:  Up to $8,600
The purpose of this award is to allow Network members to work with the NN/LM SCR office to coordinate and implement a symposium.
Deadline: July 1, 2009

Document Delivery Funding Opportunities from the NN/LM SCR

The NN/LM SCR is now accepting applications for two document delivery funding opportunities.  The deadline to apply for the awards is February 1, 2010. For more information on these awards, see: http://nnlm.gov/scr/funding/.

DOCLINE Library Improvement Project (DLIP):

Amount of funding:  Up to $5,000 each

The purpose of the DLIP Award is to provide an opportunity to DOCLINE libraries, or libraries that are interested in becoming full DOCLINE users, to expand and improve existing library services.

EFTS Assistance Award

Amount of funding: Up to $200 each

The purpose of this award is to promote participation in the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFTS) System (https://efts.uchc.edu/efts/Common/index.aspx) among libraries that are not currently EFTS members due to institutional barriers.

Outreach Funding Opportunities from the NN/LM SCR

Express Outreach Award:
Amount of funding:  Up to $5,000 each
The purpose of the Express Outreach Award is to support a wide range of outreach projects aimed at improving access to and use of the National Library of Medicine’s databases to improve access to health and biomedical information.
August 3, 2009 and Feb. 1, 2010 deadlines.

Access to Electronic Consumer Health Information:
Amount of funding: Up to $25,000 each

The purpose of the Access to Electronic Consumer Health Information is to ensure that health professionals, their patients and the general public are connected to the health information resources they need to make informed health care decisions. This solicitation will focus on projects designed to improve access to electronic consumer health information for such groups and organizations as: consumers, the underserved and minority health care professionals, public health workers, public libraries, and community-based and faith-based organizations. The proposed projects may target individuals and organizations providing health information to the public, as well as targeting the public directly.
August 3, 2009 deadline

Partners in Public Health Information Outreach:
Amount of funding: Up to $25,000 each
Digital literacy and the effective utilization of online information are among the core public health informatics competencies for the 21st century. The goal of the Partners in Public Health Information Outreach award is to provide the public health workforce with timely, convenient access to information resources that can help them perform their jobs more effectively. Proposed projects should target public health department employees serving state and local communities.
August 3, 2009 deadline.

Professional Development Funding Opportunity from the NN/LM SCR

Amount of funding:  Up to $1000 each

The purpose of this award is to enable individuals at NN/LM SCR Network member institutions to expand professional knowledge and experience to provide improved health information access to health care professionals and consumers.

Technology Funding Opportunities from the NN/LM SCR

The NN/LM SCR is now accepting applications for Year 4 technology funding opportunities:

Information Access Improvement Project Award:

The purpose of the Information Access Improvement Project (IAIP) award is to provide an opportunity to the NN/LM SCR Network members interested in improving access to Internet-based health information including National Library of Medicine products and services. At least five (5) projects of up to $5,000 each will be awarded.

Application deadline for IAIP: August 3, 2009, 5:00 CST and February 1, 2010, 5:00 pm CST

Library Technology Award:

The purpose of the Library Technology Award is to assist full Network member libraries in the NN/LM SCR that are interested in implementing large-scale technology applications to further encourage library improvement and expansion of library services.  Three (3) projects up to $20,000 each will be awarded.

Funding Opportunity: Library Student Outreach

The NN/LM SCR is now accepting applications for the 2009 Library Student Outreach funding opportunity.  The purpose of this award is to promote the value of outreach to library school students interested in health sciences librarianship.

The award provides funding for students to attend and participate in NN/LM SCR outreach activities at the South Central Chapter (SCC) of the Medical Library Association’s Annual Meeting taking place in Tulsa, OK October 17 – 21, 2009.  At the conference, students will attend meetings and other activities designed for them to learn about the importance of health information outreach and outreach services conducted by librarians in the South Central Region.  (more…)

UTHSCSA Receives “Project of the Year” Award

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Library has been awarded the Bexar Library Association’s Project of the Year for their NN/LM SCR funded Get HIP: Informing the Health and Future of K-12 Students symposium.  This symposium provided an opportunity for school librarians, school nurses and others to raise their awareness of information resources available from the National Library of Medicine and other organizations. Participants were able to work together in small groups to generate ideas for promoting access to health information for students, their families and the broader community.

Congratulations to Keith Cogdill, Julie Gaines and the other project participants for their hard work.

Sewell Fund Learning Fellowships

Call for Librarian Applicants for the 2009/2010 Sewell Fund Learning Fellowships.  The application deadline is April 15, 2009.

The Grace and Harold Sewell Memorial Fund will award two 12-month, paid “Learning Partnerships” placing experienced health sciences librarians within leading health care organizations for the purpose of both partners gaining a greater understanding of how best information sciences can be effectively applied in each environment.  This on-the-edge fellowship offers mid-career librarians the opportunity to be fully immersed in the environment of a health care organization.  The fellow will participate in team settings designed to utilize the librarian’s skills and knowledge in non-traditional ways, resulting in a tangible and valuable contribution to the host organization.  For more information about the Grace and Harold Sewell Memorial Fund, the Learning Partnerships, fellowship application process, and eligibility requirements, please visit the Sewell Fund website at http://www.sewellfund.org/LearningPartnerships2009.htm.
