Nicknamed the "The Natural State", Arkansas has an area of 52,068 square miles, with many natural attractions including Hot Springs National Park, Buffalo National River, and Blanchard Spring Caverns. Arkansas has an estimated 2006 population of 2,810,872 with Little Rock being both the largest city and the state capital. Arkansas became a territory in 1819, and 17 years later became a state.
