2008 National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month Press Conference and Kick-Off - SAMHSA-Sponsored
Description
The Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will unveil the results of the 2007 National Survey on Drug Use and Health at a press conference on Thursday, September 4. The annual survey, formerly called the Household Survey is the largest of its kind, and is the governments primary vehicle for determining how many persons are abusing illegal drugs, pharmaceuticals, alcohol and tobacco.

The release of the 2007 survey results is the keynote of the annual National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month press conference marking a month long observance of the gains made by those in recovery from alcohol and drug abuse, as well as treatment providers.

Christopher Kennedy Lawford to speak on sobriety

Lawford, 53, the son of actor Peter Lawford and Pat Kennedy Lawford, grew up privileged in Hollywood and Washington. But at age 13, he started to abuse drugs and alcohol. Seventeen years later, he found the inspiration and courage to get sober. Now 22 years later, he?s spreading his message of hope to others trapped by addiction. On Tuesday, Lawford will visit Oklahoma Outreach Sober School in Oklahoma City and that evening will speak at a dinner honoring Chesapeake Energy Corp. and its employees, recipient of the Dare to Believe Award. The event will be at the Skirvin Hilton hotel. Cost is $125. For tickets, call 842-0706.
