2008 National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month Press Conference and Kick-Off - SAMHSA-Sponsored
Description
The Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will unveil the results of the 2007 National Survey on Drug Use and Health at a press conference on Thursday, September 4. The annual survey, formerly called the Household Survey is the largest of its kind, and is the governments primary vehicle for determining how many persons are abusing illegal drugs, pharmaceuticals, alcohol and tobacco.

The release of the 2007 survey results is the keynote of the annual National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month press conference marking a month long observance of the gains made by those in recovery from alcohol and drug abuse, as well as treatment providers.

Prevention to Recovery, Recovery to Prevention Conference -- SAMHSA-Sponsored
Description
As part of Recovery Month, this conference will encourage faith-based organizations, civic leaders, treatment and prevention organizations, and the recovery community to address the continued need for treatment, discuss barriers that prevent people from seeking help, and ensure access to local treatment facilities. Evening activities will include a Sobriety Pow-Wow featuring the Native American Wellness Association on Friday, September 26. Four open 12-step meetings will be held during the conference.

"Visions" is a powerful dramatic theatrical presentation on alcoholism, drug addiction and recovery. The Visions play depicts the destruction from alcohol abuse and substance abuse and points the way to recovery by way of the 12 Step programs. The "Visions" program also deals with domestic violence, codependency, youth at risk, HIV, AIDS and homelessness, believing recovery brings sanity. All participants in the "Visions" program are volunteers using the medium of theater to educate and prevent substance abuse.

7:00 pm - Visions" is a powerful play that depicts bottoms, the spiritual awakening and coming into the rooms of 12 Step Programs. The play also depicts scenes of domestic violence, youth at risk, AIDS, codependency and homelessness. Pulling no punches, the play takes a realistic view of addiction and all its talons. But more importantly the play depicts hope.
