2008 National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month Press Conference and Kick-Off - SAMHSA-Sponsored
Description
The Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will unveil the results of the 2007 National Survey on Drug Use and Health at a press conference on Thursday, September 4. The annual survey, formerly called the Household Survey is the largest of its kind, and is the governments primary vehicle for determining how many persons are abusing illegal drugs, pharmaceuticals, alcohol and tobacco.

The release of the 2007 survey results is the keynote of the annual National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month press conference marking a month long observance of the gains made by those in recovery from alcohol and drug abuse, as well as treatment providers.

Title
New Approach for Addiction Recovery
Description
This conference will promote a recovery collaborative system of care for alcohol and drug dependent individuals. Its main objective is for participants to understand the need of a network of systems of care with various collaborative organizations and community and peer supports than can provide services to address the multiple patients needs for recovery. Drug addiction will be conceptualized as a chronic treatable brain disease with episodes of relapse expected. SAMHSAs vision toward recovery will be discussed by Ivette Torres, who develops national communication strategies and campaigns including the observance of the National Alcohol and Drug Recovery Month. The principles, elements and components of this system of care will be described.
