SC Safety Program - SC Headquarters:

Office of Science Headquarters is responsible for establishing programs and policy. SC policy includes overall expectations for the SC safety program. SC Headquarters has set clear expectations for safety performance by requiring verified Integrated Safety Management (ISM) Programs at each of the Laboratories and through specific measurable safety goals.

Site Managers are expected to notify the Director of Science of all safety-related occurrences and events at their sites. Safety is on the agenda of the Director’s staff meetings with the Site Managers, quarterly meetings with the Laboratory Directors, and annual institutional reviews of the laboratories.

SC Management reviews the safety data on at least a quarterly basis to determine any potential negative trends/vulnerabilities. Issues are communicated to the Site Office Managers to take appropriate action. SC also issues safety directives highlighting potential vulnerabilities in areas such as vehicle safety, electrical safety, hoisting and rigging, and lasers. Lessons learned from accidents/injuries are reported and communicated across the SC Laboratory system.
