Consumer Health Corner: State Library Association Conferences

This fall is a busy time for consumer health activities, especially state library association conferences!

At the recent Nevada Library Association Annual Conference, Kelli Ham, PSR Consumer Health Coordinator, gave a presentation titled “Tickling Their Funny Bone! Designing Fun Health Programs for Kids and Teens”. This program highlighted online resources from the National Library of Medicine and other quality sites that make learning about health fun and interactive. Exhibiting and presenting at the conference provided an opportunity to meet many Nevada librarians, including several from public and school libraries.

If any of you are planning to attend the California Library Association Conference, Kelli will be presenting several mini-demos at the Infopeople booth on October 27-28 to highlight a series of eight webcasts (Infopeople: Health e-Shows) she will be presenting on consumer health topics. The first in the series will be held from 12-1pm on October 22 titled “A Younger Generation of Older Adults: Health Information for Boomers”. For more information on this webcast or the Health e-Shows series, please visit the following website: http://infopeople.org/training/webcasts/webcast_data/227/index.html or see this related Latitudes article.

In November, Kelli will be traveling to Kauai for the Hawaii Library Association Annual Conference that will be held on November 10-11. NN/LM PSR will have an exhibit booth at the conference, and Kelli will be presenting a session on evaluation tools and best practices during the conference. While in Hawaii, Kelli will also present two training sessions at the Kauai Community College for nursing students and faculty. Be sure to stop by the NLM booth to say hello if you are attending the HLA conference!
