The purpose of this program is to conduct outreach services designed to build relationships between grantee staff and runaway, homeless, and street youth. Street Outreach Programs must be designed to assist runaway, homeless, and street youth in making healthy personal choices regarding where they live and how they behave by building trusting relationships between grantee staff and these youth through the provision of services in their environment and through diverse modes of communication that will encourage trust.  Outreach service delivery must comprehensively address the individual strengths and needs of youth as well as be gender specific (interventions that are sensitive 50 awards with a maximum of $200,000 per budget year

Mentoring Children of Prisoners

The purpose of the MCP program is to create quality, lasting, one-on-one relationships that provide young people with caring role models for future success.  In collaboration with networks of public and private entities, MCP grantees match children, ages four up to age 18, with a screened and trained adult volunteer for a one-on-one (one adult matched with one youth) mentoring relationship.  Caring adult mentors interact with mentees on a regular and consistent basis to provide support, encouragement, and advice; providing opportunities for mentees to gain new skills and interests and expand their experiences beyond their families, schools, and neighborhoods. An applicant must be a non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) status. Faith-based and community organizations are eligible to apply under this announcement. Applications are due June 19, 2009

Southwest Airlines, in conjunction with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), announced today the opening of Dandole Alas a Tu Exito/Giving Flight to Your Success,  its annual education travel award program.  This program starts APRIL 2009  with online applications at http://www.hacu.net/hacu/Lanzate_EN.asp accepted through June 5, 2009. Each student is eligible to receive from one to four tickets that the student or an immediate family member can use in the Fall 2009 to travel to/from a college or university.  The travel tickets are awarded to undergraduate and graduate Hispanic students with socio-economic need who journey away from home to pursue higher education.
